For tonight's show I featured 25 crucial releases from the 1980's, the decade when hardcore/metal music was in perhaps in it's greatest stage of development. D-beat was emerging as a force as Discharge's influence began to spread worldwide. Grindcore was in it's infancy. The American bands were releasing seminal records. The Japanese bands were becoming known to us showcasing a unique hardcore which would pave the way for the burning spirits sound. These are not only important releases that would shape the direction of intense music and build an underground music culture, but pivotal for me as an alienated teenager looking to distance myself from the herd and inspiring me to become a musician myself. This is by no means a comprehensive list, there are at least another 25 bands that should be here. Probably many more than that. Hardcore was becoming a global movement and every country was developing their own scenes and sounds. Discharge wasn't the first hardcore band I ever heard, but they resonated with me in a unique way. If I could only keep one record out of the thousands I own, it would be Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing. When I die I want to be cremated with it so our ashes are forever entwined. There's no more fitting place to begin...
