RIP Al Barile 1961-2025

Al Barile, guitarist and founder of the seminal Boston hardcore band SSD (Society System Decontrol) has died at the age of 63. Influential in the development of that early 80's Boston HC sound and a vocal proponent of the straight edge lifestyle, he helped shape the youth crew movement. I remember seeing those now iconic live photos of him leaping into the air with his guitar and wondering how he could possibly achieve such heights without a trampoline. RIP.

RIP Clem Burke 1954-2025

It is with sadness that I announce the passing of Clem Burke, longtime drummer in Blondie, The Romantics as well as a very brief stint in the Ramones. He recorded with Iggy and was a prolific session drummer. I was always impressed by the intensity of his playing, even in his later years. His hard hitting style was an influence on my own playing and along with Keith Moon, who he also idolized, was an inspiration for me in taking up the drums to begin with. Taken far too soon. RIP
